The next destination in sight: Alghero in Giro d’Italia

Ok guys, I do not know if you’ve ever heard about Giro d’Italia. Well, this is an international cycling race which passes through many Italian destinations so … we already have a perfect excuse to pack your bags and go to Italy! To make matters worse, this year is the 100th anniversary of this super event and I, personally, do not even think about skipping it.

It consists of 21 stages between which: 2 stages are individual, 6 are for speed lovers, 8 are mid-range mountain roads and the remaining 5 are high mountain. The cyclists will make a route of 3.615 km … such a challenge! Here you can see the descriptions of each stage in details.

This year the town of Alghero will be the starting point of the Giro for the first time in history. The first stage will start on May 5th and will include the route Alghero – Olbia.

Alghero is a small but incredibly beautiful town with the seaside and picturesque streets which formerly belonged to the kingdom of Catalonia. A perfect mix of nature, sea and culture, come on … that´s what I like! That is why, without thinking twice, this will be the destination where I will go plus to enjoy the Giro d’Italia. I cannot wait to land Italy and get lost between international cyclists and fans from all over the world. Now when you know, tell me … isn’t it a perfect excuse to have a cool vacation in Sardinia?

All my Italian colleagues have told me that I will fall in love with Alghero because it is really wonderful and special place. As I know for now, it is famous for its unpolluted turquoise sea, its wild beaches, its exuberant nature and, what is even better, for its fine nightlife. Mmm … right now I can not stop thinking about how many photos of my favorite cocktail “Little Italy” I’m going to post in Instagram – 100% recommended!

But the most important tip they have given me and, that I think I should share with you, is that the best way to travel around Alghero is by scooter. I don’t know you personally… but as for me I’m the one who hates traffic … just thinking about it makes me sick. Also, if I go to a beach destination I have to find the most hidden cove (since they are the most spectacular) to be able to enjoy total privacy. So … if you are like me, do not hesitate to rent a scooterin Alghero. I am sure it will worth it, gaining agility, ease and speed during my future vacations in Italy.

Well guys, it´s all´ve been said, next week I’m going to the Giro d’Italia. I promise to collect all the special places to create a fun top 10 places to visit in Alghero for you if you fancy to go there one day. And those who have already been there, please, share your suggestions with us! See you!
